Peer Review Process

IJELTAL (Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics) uses double-blind system for peer-review; both reviewers and authors’ identities remain anonymous. The paper will be peer-reviewed by two experts; one reviewer from outside and one editor from the journal typically involve in reviewing a submission. The journal will screen the paper for plagiarism using google scholar check and plagiarism checker.

The Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics is a scholarly journal with a focus on English language teaching and applied linguistics, issued by the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at State Islamic University Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. IJELTAL (Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics) provides open access to its content on the principle making research and science freely available to the public supports a global exchange of knowledge.

All open access published articles will be free for everyone to download, read, and cite.  We are working with our author communities to select the license options as follows:

Archiving

The Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics maintains the durability and availability of its published materials by utilizing dependable digital archiving systems. It ensures that all articles are securely backed up and continuously accessible through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), as confirmed in the Publisher Manifest.

The PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), developed by the Public Knowledge Project, is designed to facilitate the long-term preservation of journals operated using Open Journal Systems (OJS). This network adopts the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) approach, allowing for decentralized storage and distribution, thereby safeguarding authentic versions of published works and ensuring their ongoing accessibility.

By implementing the PKP PN, the Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics ensures that its publications are securely stored and can still be accessed in the future, even if technical issues arise or the journal ceases operation. This preservation strategy reflects the journal’s dedication to open access principles and the sustained availability of academic publications.

IJELTAL (Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics), e-ISSN: 2527-8746; p-ISSN: 2527-6492, is an international journal of ELT, EFL/ESL, Language Teaching, Linguistics, Literature. published by Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of State Islamic University Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda, Indonesia. It is a peer-reviewed open access journal in the fields of Islamic Studies.

The publication of an article in IJELTAL is an essential building block in the development of a respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editors, the peer reviewers, and the publisher.

 

AUTHORS

Reporting Standard

Authors must present the original manuscript, not published in any form, and do not submit the same article to other journals until the publisher give an answer regarding the feasibility of the manuscript. Authors should provide accurate and accountable research data. Authors must cite the sources appropriately by considering the content of the manuscript either in the form of written publications and personal interviews.

 

Originality dan plagiarism

The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.

 

Authorship of the Paper
Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported research. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

 

Data Access and Retention

Authors may be asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

 

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

Fundamental errors in published works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper. If the editor or the publisher learns from a third party that a published work contains a significant error, it is the obligation of the author to promptly retract or correct the paper or provide evidence to the editor of the correctness of the original paper.

 

EDITORS

The editor of the IJELTAL journal is responsible for deciding which of the articles should be published. The validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers must always drive such decisions. The editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.

 

Fair Play
An editor at any time evaluates manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality
The editors and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in editors' own research without the express written consent of the author.

 

REVIEWERS

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the quality of a paper.

Promptness
Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editors and excuse himself from the review process. 

 

Confidentiality

Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to, or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

 

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. The reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting rationale arguments.

 

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify the source of references that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

 

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions connected to the papers.


PUBLISHER

It is committed to ensure that commercial interest has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. IJELTAL will assist in communications with other journals where this is useful to the authors. IJELTAL is working closely with all related divisions to set standards for best practices on ethical matters, errors and retractions--and are prepared to provide specialized legal review and counsel if necessary

 

Ownership and Management

The Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics, published by State Islamic University Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda, operates under the institution’s official authority with support from the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training. This journal is dedicated to fostering academic exchange and distributing high-quality studies in English language teaching and applied linguistics.

The institution ensures the journal’s continuity by providing both administrative and financial assistance. Nevertheless, the Editor-in-Chief retains complete autonomy over academic and editorial decisions. All editorial procedures, ranging from manuscript evaluation to peer review and final publication, are carried out impartially and independently, without interference from the journal’s owner or affiliated institution.

 

Governing Body

The Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics is administered by a governing body operating under the authority of the State Islamic University Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. This body is formally supervised by the institution and receives support from the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training. It is tasked with guiding the journal’s strategic planning, ensuring its sustainability, and managing its overall governance.

In carrying out its role, the governing body ensures that the journal adheres to established standards in academic publishing, including ethical guidelines set by the Committee on Publication Ethics. Its duties involve formulating general policies, securing administrative and financial resources, and supporting the journal’s long-term growth and continuity.

Although the governing body provides institutional supervision, it does not intervene in editorial matters. The Editor-in-Chief, along with the editorial board, maintains full autonomy in decisions regarding manuscript assessment, peer review, and publication. This clear distinction guarantees that editorial judgments are made purely on the basis of academic quality, originality, and alignment with the journal’s focus.

Allegations & Misconduct Policy

The Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics is dedicated to upholding the highest ethical standards in academic publishing and actively works to prevent all forms of research misconduct. The journal adheres to recognized ethical frameworks, including those established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), to safeguard integrity in scholarly communication.

Detection of Misconduct

Research misconduct can be detected at various stages of the publication process, including during submission, peer review, or after publication. Reports may originate from editors, reviewers, readers, or be identified through plagiarism detection tools. Misconduct may include, but is not limited to, plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, redundant publication, and inappropriate authorship practices.

Preliminary Evaluation

When an allegation is received, the editorial board conducts an initial review to assess its validity and seriousness. If the allegation is considered credible, the journal proceeds to a more detailed investigation.

Investigation Procedure

The journal will contact the corresponding author to seek clarification and may request supporting evidence or data. When necessary, communication may also be established with the author’s affiliated institution or relevant authorities to ensure a comprehensive and impartial investigation.

Outcomes and Sanctions

Based on the findings, the journal may take appropriate actions, including:

  • Rejecting the manuscript (if still under review)
  • Requesting revisions or corrections (for minor issues)
  • Issuing corrections or retracting published articles
  • Informing the author’s institution or relevant organizations
  • Imposing temporary or permanent bans on future submissions

Post-Publication Actions

If misconduct is confirmed after publication, the Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics will issue an official correction, expression of concern, or retraction notice to ensure transparency and preserve the integrity of the academic record.

 

Revenue Sources

The Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics is financially supported through two main sources, they are institutional funding from the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of UIN Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda and Article Processing Charges (APCs) paid by contributing authors.

Funding from campus is allocated to cover key operational activities, such as managing the peer-review process, handling editorial work, publishing articles, maintaining the journal’s website, as well as ensuring proper digital archiving and long-term preservation. Meanwhile, the APCs collected from authors are used to sustain the journal’s publishing operations, improve editorial standards, and support the timely release of publications.

Through this integrated funding approach, the Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics is able to uphold high-quality academic publishing standards while providing immediate open access to all of its published content.

 

Advertising Policy

The Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics does not permit or feature commercial advertisements, nor does it support or promote any products or services offered by external sponsors or third parties. Editorial decisions are carried out independently, without being affected by commercial, financial, or institutional influences.

All manuscripts published in the Indonesian Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics are assessed exclusively based on their scholarly quality, originality, and alignment with the journal’s scope.
